Oculus VR Not working? :: Home Sweet Home General Discussions

Where the setting and premise makes it fall into horror the game plays out like a stealth puzzle game. In Home Sweet Home, Yggdrazil Group does an amazing job of sprinkling various ambient noises throughout the game that will keep you on edge. Couple that with the sounds of the box cutter that the main demonic entity — a ghastly looking woman — carries, and it all makes for a genuinely unsettling experience. One moment in particular saw me slowly moving down a near pitch black corridor and listening for the distinct sound of the knife, and for a brief moment, I was completely sucked into the game and what was happening. Beyond exploring and solving puzzles, the bulk of the gameplay involves playing hide and seek with the various spooks and ghosts that stalk Tim.

Home Sweet Home brings the rich and terrifying stories directly from Thai culture for this nightmarish ride... The realm of VR presents this devilish title in the best way, putting you right in the middle of the terror at hand." When you are hiding in a locker, peering through the slots as some awful presence stalks about the room moaning for your blood, it is easy to forget that this is “just a game”. I found myself literally holding my breath, desperate to not be discovered by the awful chittering spirit that was searching for me. There are still some concerns with repetitive game design and enemy awareness, but this is definitely one scary experience in the PS VR headset.

Home Sweet Home is here to show us that horror is still alive, or dead, or a humongous black monster wanting to slap the life out of you. I bought the game today hoping that I would be able to play with my Oculus Rift, however I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it. I start steamvr and everything and once I open the game it is just a black screen in the headset with the game playing in desktop mode. The core gameplay focuses on storytelling and stealth to avoid perilous spirits hunting you.

Afterlife VR

I was ready for some cool scares and a peek through a window at some new cultural imagery I wasn’t familiar with. While what I ended up with was definitely creepy and had its moments of thrilling, intense horror, it was often held back by rough gameplay snags that would turn big moments into drags. When it comes to length the game takes around four to five hours to get through given all the trial and error involved.

Tim can run, crouch, use a flashlight, and pick things up in order to proceed. To find an escape, he’ll need to do all of these things, plus hide, in order to avoid dangers and solve puzzles or situations. Unfortunately, most solutions will be to find an item that grants access to a path and move to the next complication. Home Sweet Home is pretty linear and most doors, stairways, and windows will be inaccessible to Tim. You’ll always have a clear picture on what your surroundings are in any given level, but some of the puzzles are not very clear. Home Sweet Home follows Tim as he wakes up in a house with no clear memory of where he was before today.

Even without X-Enhancements, this offers some of the best visuals I’ve seen in a horror survival for a long time. The shadows which cast over the blood soaked walls projected from the bright florescent lights, add an element of terror that really works against a modern setting, which in my view creates a far more scarier atmosphere. After a long night filled with mourning and sorrow over the recent disappearance of his wife, protagonist Tim awakens to find himself in a strange, dilapidated building instead of the comfort of his own home. Naturally confused, he desperately begins to search for a way out while attempting to solve questions that could lead to answers regarding his wife’s disappearance.

But the things that the game does well will live on in my memory long after the missteps that threatened to ruin the scary fun. Allows itself a little more leeway when it could have just as easily restricted itself to its toy store starting point. Begos maintains consistency with the movie’s heightened aesthetic despite the larger sandbox that he allows himself to play in. These are characters that never stop drinking or getting high despite being in constant peril. So much of the film is just Tori and Sam casually chatting as they mock Christmas tropes and rank metal albums and horror sequels.

This includes your path, the problem of the moment, and of course your tools to deal with the threat. This is not an impressive game from a visual fidelity or content volume standpoint, but where it does excel is its sound design. Despite doing a bunch of things right, Home Sweet Home is certainly not without issues. Elsewhere, the game does a poor job of guiding the player, so expect to be stuck in the same room looking for clues or figuring out how to get past an enemy for some time. Home Sweet Home does an excellent job of creating a solid foundation for fear, yet overly relies on cheap jump scares to carry the horror.

But the reptile part of your brain, the one that controls the fight or flight mechanism buried deep inside of all of us, screams bloody murder the entire time. As I mentioned, game design primarily focuses on finding items and putting them to use somehow. There’s no markers, so, once you have an objective, it’s a blind search in hopes of finding what you need. Since the areas are so small and linear, this wouldn’t be a problem normally.

As you progress in this game you will attempt to uncover this secret as well as solve the mystery of your wife’s disappearance while in constant fear of being discovered by these unforgiving creatures. Home Sweet Home is a first-person indie-horror game inspired by Thai myths and beliefs that was recently released on PS4 and Xbox One from Thai developer Yggdrazil. Yggdrazil is not known for game creation, as it boasts projects in VFX, Animation, Art Design and Online-Editing categories, with very little focus on games. For a company with such a diverse portfolio, it would be an understatement to say I was surprised with the overall quality of Home Sweet Home.

These are not too difficult to accomplish, but do add to the overall length of the game. If you learn anything from Home Sweet Home Alone, it's that children are evil. Not because the kid in this 2021 reboot is a giggling sociopath torturing grownups with an array of horrifyingly vicious traps.

In one night, after suffering from the sorrow for a long time, he woke up in an unknown place instead of his house. While trying to escape from this place, he was hunted by a rancorous female spirit. Some dark sinister secret is hidden inside this house, and it won’t be a place of happiness as it used to be any longer. Home Sweet Home doesn’t bother much with a setup, and that’s part of the story. All you know in the beginning is that your wife, Jane, is missing, and after a night of coping with grief at the bottom of a bottle , you wake up in a building you don’t recognize. While making your way through the empty space, full of rot and debris, you realize you aren’t alone in the worst possible way.

Once you persevere and figure out what you need to do to survive, that knowledge will carry you through most of the rest of the game. Well before the player is familiar with the mechanics at play, they are asked to endure what is arguably the most difficult sequence in the game. The first encounter with a spirit in Home Sweet Home will likely lead to many players experiencing repeated deaths, over and over again, until they finally figure out the correct steps to take to survive. There were moments in Home Sweet Home, the Yggdrazil Group’s horror title that was recently ported to the PlayStation VR, that frightened me so badly that I actually had to take off my headgear to collect myself.

Never bites off more than it can chew, but many of the movie’s most satisfying sequences are the ones where the storytelling doesn’t feel trapped by its setting. Home Sweet Home is a molten jumble of horror game ideas, poured into a cracked gameplay mold, but its imperfections can’t hide its true horror qualities. Never as aggravatingly bad as something like Weeping Doll, but far from the polish and care of The Persistence. Mainly it just doesn’t click with the control setup all that well, but it does amplify the panic of being chased by a demonic woman wielding a box cutter. Beneath the promising concept, Home Sweet Home is as generic and bare bones as it gets for horror titles on PlayStation 4. Playing it with PSVR might be a game-changer, but without it, expect a mediocre and pedestrian first-person adventure.
